Luis Ticas is currently the Data Analytics Consulting Manager at EPAM Systems, where he leads the integration of cutting-edge generative AI technologies and data-driven strategies across business operations. With over 9 years of experience in data science, he specializes in advanced analytics, machine learning, and predictive modeling. Luis has a proven track record of spearheading transformative projects that enhance operational efficiencies and decision-making processes. He holds a Master of Management Analytics from Smith School of Business from Queens University and a Bachelor of Economics from McMaster University. Luis is deeply committed to innovation and excellence in the rapidly evolving field of data science.
Driven by his passion for technology and environmental advocacy, he joined Climate Resilient Communities (CRC). This spotlight delves into the motivations and experiences of his volunteering efforts, showcasing how innovative minds address climate challenges.
I joined Climate Resilient Communities out of a deep-seated passion for working at the intersection of technology and environmental advocacy. One of the most rewarding projects I’m involved with is the development of our Multilingual Climate Chatbot. This innovative tool is designed to provide all residents of Toronto with easy-to-understand, actionable climate information and insights that address their concerns about the local impact of climate change.

What is one key skill you've developed through your volunteering?
My volunteer work has substantially enhanced my expertise in AI and machine learning through the Multilingual Climate Chatbot project. It has also been an invaluable experience in developing user-centric solutions that are not only impactful but are practical and user-friendly for everyday use—even in the developmental stage.
Impact
While the Multilingual Climate Chatbot is still a work in progress, I am confident in its future role as a pivotal resource for our community. By improving access to critical climate information, we enable residents to better understand and tackle climate issues, fostering attitude and behavior change among Torontonians and increasing communities’ long-term resilience.
