CRC Launches Multilingual Climate Chatbot to Close Gaps in Climate Information
Toronto, ON — Climate Resilience Communities (CRC) is proud to launch its multilingual climate chatbot, a tool designed to make important climate information accessible to Toronto’s diverse communities, regardless of language, income, or background.
Across the city, climate knowledge is unevenly distributed, with marginalized and multilingual communities often excluded from timely and reliable updates. CRC’s chatbot addresses this inequality by delivering clear, easy-to-understand climate guidance in more than 200 languages, tailored to local needs.
“It’s completely understandable that many young people are feeling anxious about the climate crisis. Our goal with the MLCC is to meet them where they are. We want to provide a reliable and accessible tool that not only informs them but also channels that energy and concern towards tangible actions, fostering a sense of agency and proving that they can be powerful agents of change."
- Luis Ticas, Project Lead, MLCC
A Human-Centred Approach to Climate Tech
Unlike generalized AI platforms, CRC’s chatbot is built from curated, locally verified sources, including data from municipalities that are not easily accessible online. The platform is simple to use, ensuring that lower-income, Indigenous, and racialized communities can access essential information at any time.
Future Directions
CRC is committed to updating the chatbot with the most relevant, community-driven literature and resources, ensuring that the tool evolves alongside the climate challenges Toronto faces. Future versions will expand information coverage to include geospatial climate data and enable more timely dissemination of extreme weather preparedness information, keeping accessibility and equity at the forefront.
