Climate Resilient Communities (formerly known as Toronto Just Climate Resilience) is a not-for-profit project operating under Transition Toronto.

Our Vision

Communities working together and using data, knowledge and their voices to create healthier, stronger and better-connected neighborhoods for all, in this and future generations.

Our Mission

CRC strengthens communities’ capacity to bounce forward by helping community groups to effectively advocate for their needs and find solutions to environmental, social and economic challenges exacerbated by changing climate.

We work at the intersection of community, data & AI, and climate change. We work towards our mission by using data to tell stories about community – how climate impacts us, what communities want and need, and how we want to use voices to build better neighborhoods.

Our Story

Canadian communities are already feeling the effects of climate change. In recent years, we've experienced record-breaking heat waves, dangerous wildfire smoke blanketing cities, rising flood risks in urban neighbourhoods, and worsening food insecurity tied to climate-driven disruptions.

These impacts are not felt equally. Where you live, your access to support systems, and the community you're part of all shape how you experience climate risk.

CRC is a volunteer-run group with backgrounds in data, climate science, and AI, working to support urban Canadian communities and the grassroots projects that drive change. Our goal is to strengthen existing work by providing tools, insights, and data storytelling that reflect what's happening on the ground.

We support the assets that already exist in communities and amplify the work already underway, whether that's youth-led organizing, local food systems, or tenant advocacy.

Our work is currently based in Toronto with plans to expand across other urban communities in Canada.

What We Do

CRC currently has three primary and secondary initiatives:

We support community-led resilience work by offering:

  • 📊 Data services: collection, analysis, and storytelling support for local advocacy and project planning
  • 📚 Learning programs: workshops and training to grow climate and data capacity
  • 🌱 Youth literacy initiatives: supporting youth programs with climate and data learning
  • 🏘️ Community connection: facilitating cross-neighbourhood knowledge sharing

Our Values

📈 Data for Purpose

Data is a tool, not the goal. It should serve real community needs.

🤝 Community Knows Best

We follow community leadership and support with tools and expertise.

🔄 Systems Thinking

We look at the big picture to develop long-term, integrated solutions.
